The back room of our home-sweet-RV, doubles as our bedroom and Sallie’s office/happy place, and it probably goes without saying that decor is a big deal!! Cool LED lights are sure to please, especially when they come with clothespins for hanging photos! Winner!!
The drawback with the cool light string, however, was its intended power source – 3 AA batteries. Good thing we are makers extraordinaire because we are going to convert the lights to run off a USB car charger which can be plugged into our existing RV 12V wiring behind the TV in the back room!
Here’s the list of items we used to convert the light string:
- USB car charger
- Short USB cable – Ours happened to have a mini-USB end which we cut off. We referenced this article to learn about the pins and wiring that make up a USB cable.
- Zip tie – We put this around the cable to prevent it from being pulled out of the box after soldering the wires
Other equipment you’ll need:
- Wire cutters/stripper
- Multimeter
- Soldering iron
- Solder
